Computery Time Empty Computery Time

Post by Fozzik Mon Apr 08, 2013 7:18 am

I've had an issue with my computer ever since the first GW2 beta, and I finally can't stand it anymore.

This computer isn't that old...I built it about two years ago to the day. But, it crashes (hard restart) about once a day when playing GW2. I've done all the troubleshooting I feel like doing, and it's definitely hardware causing the crashes...so I'm just going to take the scorched earth approach and do an upgrade / refresh of all the major components.

I absolutely hate trying to troubleshoot by buying and replacing one component at a time, because you end up replacing everything, it takes forever, and the possibility of damaging the new parts by hooking them up to the old parts makes things even more iffy. Also, there's the distinct possibility of more than one part being bad...which makes pinning the problem down almost impossible.

So, I'll be out of game this evening...depending on how long it takes me to put things together and get all the software loaded. Hopefully I'll get rid of the crash issue and get a nice bump in performance at the same time. Smile

The new machine is built, and the software's loaded. I'm just waiting the eternity for all the Windows updates to complete.

Everything's running great so far. *knocks on wood*

Just as a quick note: It's super awesome that my Logitech G700 mouse can save profiles in the mouse's memory. It took like two seconds to get it set up...all my customized buttons were already set. Very Happy

In case anyone wants to geek out with me on my new PC...here's the components. I carried over the case, power supply, and mechanical hard drive from my previous build.

CPU
Mobo
RAM
SSD
GPU
Case
PSU
Mouse
Keyboard

I've got a 24" SIPS flat panel at 1920x1200, a 1TB mechanical drive for data storage, and a DVD burner. I run Windows 7 64bit.
